[NSRCA-discussion] Pattern Event Exposure to the Little People

Sounds great Scott if you can get it to auto-load without manual entry or
edit. You know why!

Events could also be posted in Model Aviation. Most aren’t, including our
local club events. We can't expect folks to show up if we keep it a secret.
I check MA every month to see what may be of interest around the NW. Those
not aware of special interest information sources may actually stumble onto
something of interest in MA without having some degree of prior knowledge.

Oh by the way Scott, thanks for the computer help you have been putting in
the K-Factor and the cpuid down load. I don't know much about these
computers, I'm just a point and click guy. Your detailer information and
instructions walked me through the evaluation and identification process
quite well. I ordered another 2g of ram last week. For $14 I'll give it a
try.
Jim

Peter,
I, for one, agree with you. I believe the SAME information ought to be
posted in as many different places as it can be. What we don't want to
happen is for folks to have to run to 13 places to find the information they
are looking for. Through this most recent By-Laws change, we have afforded
ourselves a little more room with respect to electronic distribution and
officially makes our website a place where we can provide updates. I love
us having a presence on Facebook. I think that we have done quite well and
have over 215 followers from all over the world with that number increasing
almost daily. We are working on a completely new website and should have
that up and running in only a short amount of time. We will, however, make
it right before we present it. With the new website comes many changes in
the layout, presentation and ease of use including a calendar and event
system that should take care of our needs. We are bringing everything
in-house so that we don't have to rely on third party vendors. The problem
with having an event section on Facebook is that many (especially Keith) do
not "habla Facebook". This gets back to having one source of all the
information. There is nothing wrong, however, with repeating on Facebook
what will be on the website. I will work very hard to make sure this is
done once we get our new site up and running.

Regards,
Scott

Yeah, yeah. But if you want the "little people" (someone elses phrase, not
mine) to know about our events, that's the place to publish the info! NSRCA
has a presence on FB, it should be easy for the contest schedule to go in as
events in Facebook.

It would be much better to publish the events as events in Facebook.

When I first saw this on the NSRCA sight I opened an account to test the
security.
I'm nobody, not a club officer or associated with local or district event
scheduling, but was allowed to enter an event.
At the time no authentication was required, seams anyone could enter
anything anywhere anytime, legitimate or not and yes they are still asking
me to enter events as well.

We were tied in with them for over a year on the NSRCA website, and just
left because we got so many complaints from people trying to enter data,
data entered was lost, etc. Requested fixes to the program went unresolved,
and it seemed as though we were beta testers for their software. But now
that we've left, they are begging us to come back, and claim to have fixed a
lot of problems, but too little too late.

We have just rolled out new software on the NSRCA website, and the DVP's
should have district contest data entered soon.

I don't’ know if the NSRCA leadership has looked at this, but if we
standardized the listing of all the pattern events nationally, then we
would have much greater exposure to the sport flyers. The website even has
a smartphone app that leads them right to your field.

I just registered my first event this morning so I haven’t had time to play
with all of the features, but it appears you could do your entire contest
pre-registration and fee collection online and print it out the afternoon
before your event. It also keeps your information stored for next year’s
event.
