Well, we are all learning together. I moved the cg forward even more to Y=1.5 and like it. The snaps are definitely faster and cleaner for sure.

Thanks for that. At first I thought it was a little hot but got used to it pretty quick.

Quite a few options on their sim.

Robert,

Go to the "Physics" box and click "Custom" and then "Unlimited Fuel".

You may find the Evo to be a little too hot (fast). If you do, change the number of "batteries in parallel" to a lower number.

By adding battery and fuselage weight, the down lines are a lot better. I learned something in the process as well.

Thanks Pat. This is a great starting point to customize to my flying style. Speed is much more realistic. I thought the original was a little too slow but wasn't sure.

I'm only getting about a minute of flight time before the battery runs out. I know I edited the fuel amount on gas planes before but don't see how it can be done on electric?

Again thanks for posting that.

OK guys. Here you go with the Spark modifications. Keep in mind, this is for RF 6.0 (6.5). If you run a lower version, you will most likely have to adjust the rates and expo only.

Go to: Aircraft
Click on: Edit Krill Spark Evo
Click on Airframe
Click: Fuselage
Make "Weight"=20oz
Just above "Fuselage", click "Main Battery".
When you click on the battery type a small box will pop up on the right side
Click on the little box and find "Lipoly 4400 65C" and click on it and click OK
Now next to "No of cells in parallel"= 1
Next to "No of cells in series"= 10
Click "fuselage" again
Click: Engine
Propeller type should be APC Electric
Change prop to 21 diameter and pitch to 13

To change CG:
Click on Airframe
Y= .5
To move CG forward, increase number, to move back, reduce number

To keep the chin cowl and canopy from flying off if you hit the wrong switch:

Go to "Electronics
Click both "Chin hatch servo" and Canopy detach servo"
"Input for this servo should be" <no servo>

Now you need to set throws and expo.

Click "Software Radio"
Click each of the next channels

Output channel 1(aileron)
Low rate %=55
Expo During Low Rates %= 20
Expo During High Rates %= 38

Output channel 2(elevator)
Low rate %=70
Expo During Low Rates %= 28
Expo During High Rates %= 40

Output channel 4(Rudder)
Low rate %= 100
Expo During Low Rates %= 80
Expo During High Rates %= 40

Output channel 5(aileron)
Low rate %=55
Expo During Low Rates %= 20
Expo During High Rates %= 38

This will get you in the ballpark. It's your plane so adjust it to your liking.

If you don't own Real Flight. Do yourself a favor and put it on your Christmas list.

Anything else, let me know.

Vince,

I haven't spent time looking at how to add weight. My guess is you would have to do it with components. As I mentioned, I changed the battery in the Spark. One thing you could do is change to a much heavier battery.

I don't know if a field with the box defined is available. but it's possible to edit an existing field to get a workaround. What you can do is go to "Edit field" and add something like a tree at the edges of the box. I think I tried to do this a year or so ago, but for some reason, didn't follow through.

Subject: Re: [NSRCA-discussion] Real Flight simulator questions

A few weeks ago I upgraded from 5.0 to 6.0 and found I needed to make some adjustments. First off, I have flown every pattern plane in the “swap files” and can say (in my opinion), the Spark Evo is by far the best, but it didn’t do it right out of the box, so to say. Again, in my opinion, the Osiris in the swap files is way off. You can tweak on it a bunch and it still isn’t right.

OK, for you guys that are having problems loading the Spark. When you go to the “Swap files” you will find the “Black” Evo. This is the one you want to download first. All of the others are just “color variations” and will not work without the Black loaded first.

Question….If your buddy handed you his transmitter and said go fly my plane, you most likely would want to make adjustments to get it to your liking. The same thing is true with a simulator plane. When I was running 5.0 I found I needed to make just a few tweaks to the Evo, but needed some pretty radical adjustments in 6.0. The Swap files now have an Evo that is supposed to be set up for 6.0, but I didn’t find it to be the case. Also, a “contra prop” version is available now. In my case, I find the original Black to be the best with adjustments. I agree.
OK, “down line “speed. How would you change it on a real plane? If it’s electric we can change the braking, but that is not available in RF. The other method is to put on a smaller or larger diameter prop, which we can do in RF. The down line speed of the RF Evo is a bit too slow, but I haven’t messed with it, but it’s certainly possible to do so. I think the wing loading is too low and we need to add weight. I could not find a place to do this. Do you know where?

I am not at my home computer now, so I can’t give you guys my tweaks, but I can latter today if anyone wants them. I even had to go as far as changing the CG and batteries to get the feel I wanted.

So is it worth the fifty buck upgrade to 6.0? In my opinion without a doubt, but I don’t find the planes fly any better. What you are getting is two new great features. The first one is “trails”. You can now add a trail to your flight path that stays on the screen. You only thought you were flying in strait lines until you add trails. Great information. I didn't know this. I use to have the pattern land in the RF2 that was great. I wonder if someone already created a runway with the actual box reference out there.

The second is “rewind”. If you hold the reset button on the controller it will rewind the flight path. Just last night I used it a bunch. Fly a maneuver just a bit off…just rewind and do it again, instead of having to set up again for the maneuver. Gezzz, I sound like a RF salesman! I already got it so you won't get any comision.

It’s a whole different subject, but the biggest question is “will a simulator help my pattern flying”? Long story short, it all depends on what you put into it and understand the limitations of a simulator. Personally, I have found it to be invaluable. I have about twenty real flights on the new Masters, but I would guess at least a hundred on the simulator. Winter has set in in the Pacific Northwest, so it’s pretty much simulator time until spring. Agree here too.

OK, a couple of things I do. I have not had good luck using “keep ground in view”. I find the plane gets too small. I use “automatic zoom” almost all the time. You will not have ground reference, but it least you can see the plane. I got same experience. It is the only way to practice pattern in RF6. Probably because is design to do more 3D and helis. Thanks, Vince

Yeah noticed that and found them. I think I need to adjust the throws a little or some settings for me. It seemed too twitchy on low rates and not as smooth. Possibly because I'm just not as experienced or used to that style. Also need to look at the expo settings.

Thanks again,

I will only say that this Genesis Download shows every mistake just like I do flying at the field.

Here are a few versions of the Genesis to fit your need.

Hope this helps...

Hi Vicente,

I'm new to pattern and just joined NSRCA so I'm probably not a good one to help you here. Real Flight has an update to version 6.5. Not sure that will help and actually the planes I fly I didn't notice too much of a difference.

Most of the pattern planes on there don't seem right to me but then I don't really know what I'm doing yet. The one I do fly (Osiris) isn't a 2m one but is the one I practice with. It does seem pretty close to the actual one that I have. You can get it here:

http://www.knifeedge.com/forums/downloads.php?do=file&id=14724

There is also another that I wanted to try of the spark but I can't get it to work on mine. It is here:

http://www.knifeedge.com/forums/downloads.php?do=file&id=17584

That one is supposed to be a nice one. Would be curious if you can get it to work. Or if there are any other ones that work good I would be interested also. You might be gas so they may not help at all :)

Thanks,

Robert King

Hello all,

It is that time of the year. I got RF version 6. I really don't like the down-line speed, it is not not realistic. I have been using the RF version 2 for many years and I was able to get fairly realistic with that version. Just checking if someone in the list is using this program and been able to get more realistic pattern planes. I got another question. The RF v2 does not want to work when using windows 7 or up. Has someone been able to run it? If yes, please let me know how to fix it.

Thanks and happy Thanksgiving to all,

Vicente "Vince" Bortone
