[NSRCA-discussion] Executive Board voting

I'm a little concerned about the nomination process this year. I didn't remember seeing an announcement on this list that nominations were being solicited, so I did a search in the list archives. Didn't find anything. Then I looked at the online K-Factors. Hmmm, a brief mention in Jim Quinn's column in the October issue (which I still haven't received in the mail), and nothing in the November issue that I could find (I haven't received that one either). I haven't found anything else.

I did find a lot of griping by the current NSRCA board members in the online November K-Factor about an alleged lack of transparency in the Contest Board procedures for the proposed rules changes that were all voted down. I guess I see a lack of tranparency here for the NSRCA board nominations. The first I knew that anyone had been nominated was today when I received the email here asking us to vote. In years past, we gave the nominees an opportunity to provide their thoughts on why they should be elected. Whatever happened to that?

Did I miss something?

Oh, and about the Contest Board. Their process is well documented by the AMA and follows a strict time table. We all had the opportunity to provide inputs and cross proposals after the initial vote. We also had the opportunity to talk to the CB members, and I did talk to a couple of them. The CB members are mostly active members of the pattern community, are well known, and are charted by the AMA, not the NSRCA, to look at rules proposals to benefit all AMA participants, not just NSRCA members. Problems with the NSRCA proposals were hashed out here, and the submitters had the opportunity to fix issues during the cross proposal process. How much follow-up contact did the NSRCA board initiate with the CB during the process? Were any cross proposals submitted?

Flame suit on...

Jon

I confess I don't understand why folks would vote for someone who didn't want to be bothered to put their name in the very small hat... I'd rather vote for someone committed to doing a good job in the position...

For me that means Jon Carter, the fact that I know him and know his level of commitment to the sport and the quality of his thinking, not to mention his coaching helps, but I don't think it would matter if he were on the east coast and I were here in CA, because he stepped up as the sole volunteer for a difficult position amongst some of the most compulsive-obsessive freaks (I count myself in that description) in RC...

If a guy who wins the popular vote that is a write-in and that person accepts the nomination, I would assume that person wins and takes the office. If the write-in declines, it would defer to the person with the next largest amount of votes.

So if a guy whose name is not an "accepted nominee" wins, we start voting for that office over? Or does the election process defer to an "accepted nominee"?

Because someone wrote them in. I like the choice.

If some are not "accepted nominations", why are their names on the ballot?

Good evening guys,
During the voting process, there have been a few write-in votes. This is GREAT! Please, keep in mind, however, that write-in votes are not truly accepted nominations. Some of the write-in votes are for people that have already voted for others. In other words, they probably don't even know they have been nominated. There is absolutely nothing wrong voting for write-in candidates but you may want to make sure they know they have been nominated. We are trying to keep up with the voting to place "Write-In candidate" next to those names. Due to a restriction in the software, write-in candidates will display in the choices. The following are accepted nominations by the nominees. All others are write-ins.

President - Jon Carter
VP - Don Atwood
Secretary - Scott McHarg
Treasurer - John Gayer

Warmest Regards and Happy Thanksgiving,
Scott
