Once again it is that time of year to make plans to attend the 27th
Annual Roadrunner Pattern contest. This year it will be held on May 19
and 20th at the Rocky Mountain Flying Machine(RMFM) field outside of
Albuquerque, NM. This field is north of the Route 66 Casino on county
road 36. Maps are available either through the RMFM website at
http://rmfm.org or through the NSRCA website. Weather and size of entry
field permitting we are planning to fly six rounds with four on Saturday
and two on Sunday. We have both north-south and east-west runways that
are over 500 feet in length with a petromat surface and no dropoff at
the edges. There will be no issues due to early morning sun as both
runways will be set up with stripes and 150 meter poles. We will also be
doing a courtesy weight check and checking for proper failsafe operation.

Since they are doing shooting the latest version of the Lone Ranger just
a few miles away from the field, there have been a lot of improvements
in the road between I-40 and our turnoff and, who knows, maybe Johnny
Depp will show up at the contest to see what all the excitement is
about. After all, we do need someone to trim the scores from the
scoresheets. Additionally we laid on a light show for Sunday afternoon.
There will be a total eclipse of the sun after the contest. I suggest
taking the third longest aerial tram in the world to the top of Sandia
peak and watching the eclipse from 10000 feet looking across the Rio
Grande valley and the city of Albuquerque(5000 feet). You can also drive
to the top of the tram if you wish.

The world famous Laguna burgers will be available for lunch both days at
the contest plus the standard coffee and donuts in the morning. We are
planning a Saturday night outing to Village Pizza as we have done for
the Fall contest in the past. There is also a full casino and hotel
within three miles of the field.

If you have any questions please drop me an email or give me a call at
623-986-8206. I look forward to seeing many of you next month.

Thanks
John Gayer CD
