[NSRCA-discussion] 140, 160, 170DZ muffler question

The buyer seems to want to run the engine on the bench to make sure it is alright first and therefore has trapped both of us in a unwinnable situation. Neither he nor I would want to provide a "stock" muffler so he can do this, but the plane he told me he wants it in will require a pitts style muffler. He does not want to buy that right now either and I think no matter what advice I provide him now based on your responses, he isn't listening any more. I suppose I could refuse a return, but in this modern world of electronic masquerade, we can all hide behind the computer and really cause havoc on the people's online RCU reputation. At this point, even if he bought what he needed, ran the engine and loved it for 10 flights, if for some reason he broke it, it would be my fault. Maybe I am too nice.

I did refuse to pay to have it shipped back to me though. He didn't pay for shipping so I won't eat that cost twice. Maybe he will think it through some. Who knows, but I really do like to make sure people are happy with anything they buy from me, whether it be YS engines, sport planes, or a Subaru Outback...

Kaleo makes an inverted pitts and Central Hobbies has them. Slimline makes a side mounted version. Tower Hobbies may still have one in stock, in the past, they to sell YS engines. I don't know about a Slimline inverted version.
What I have come to understand is that certain areas of our hobby are more specialized, pattern being a good example. Specialized equipment for pattern competition can be used for other areas but must be adapted to the intended application and we must be willing to pay whatever the cost to adapt it. Sometimes it's best to leave pattern engines for their intended application, which is to be used in pattern airplanes.
