[NSRCA-discussion] FW: Rules Proposals

Not long ago, I dug through a bunch of old rulebooks..some notables -

1978 - AMA allows .8060 ci displacement IF using two engines (running
separate props).

1980 - AMA adopts 11 lb limit INCLUDING FUEL. AMA also restricts pipes and
retracts in Novice (entry level class at the time).

1982 - AMA changes 11 lb limit to EXCLUDE fuel (presumably to be aligned
with FAI).

1984 - AMA allows 4C increase to 1.2 ci (up from 1.0 ci) and adds verbiage
to ban gyros, autopilots, etc. Both follow the lead of FAI.

?1984, certainly in 1985 - FAI implements noise rules. FAI class is full
turnaround, and uses normalized scoring.

1990 - AMA changes to normalized scoring, Expert becomes a transitional full
turnaround class, and the "select your own maneuvers" format for Masters is
replaced with a fixed schedule.

1992 - AMA implements 98 db noise rule. Expert is phased out, Advanced and
Masters are full turnaround.

1996 - AMA noise rule lowered to 96 db, and Novice is allowed up to 55 lbs
(to recall, I never saw anything over 11 lbs, Novice back then had quite a
number of primary trainers being flown). 2M rule put in place, presumably
following FAI lead (not sure when FAI switched from total surface area to
2M). Engine displacement limits removed (also following FAI).

2001 - FAI added 42 volt max, and TBL for large comps.

2009 - AMA added 42.56 volt max.

2001 - AMA added 115 gram allowance to Sports, Int, and Adv.

Regards,

Dave L
