Not attacking anyone here but do you (or anyone for that matter) want to be the one tasked with monitoring and enforcing that? What if it was once a month? Or was only allowed for "new product announcements"? It's really not such a good idea, as an advertiser on the K-Factor I fully understand why Chris took the position he did as he has a lot invested in his business. I also understand that Ron was really just trying to offer up something to help some people out, not trying to cut into others business sales.

I ran into a similar situation a few years back when a competitor (who ran maybe 1 or 2 business sized ads a year in the K-Factor) sent in a letter to one of the District VP's reminiscing about the passing of one of the good ol boys from the 90's pattern scene and then spent the rest of his letter shamelessly promoting his product (the word count ratio was about 10% reminiscing to 90% product promotion). It was basically a free advertisement thinly disguised as a letter to the Editor.

At the time I had run monthly 1/4 page ads in the K-Factor uninterrupted for something 6-7 years in a row. When I complained to the K-Factor ad manager at the time about the unfairness of what had happened, the response I got was along the lines of "well you can do the same thing, we'll publish it". I wasn't particularly happy with that answer and decided then and there (much like Chris did earlier today), to vote with my checkbook and cut way back on my advertising. My point is simply this, if you want people to advertise in the K-Factor, then you have to approach it from a professional, business perspective. Allowing some to use the organizational resources for free (e.g. the eMail list in this case, or a thinly veiled ad/letter to a District VP/K-Factor submission in my situation) that others are directly helping to fund with their hard earned sales revenue is a short trip to a reduced number of advertisers and a subsequent decline in ad revenue. Once you go down that slippery slope it's very hard to stop and turn around as advertisers tend to have very long memories (I certainly do!).

That said, I'd like to encourage RVP to take out a few small ads in the K-Factor periodically and make the products he carries available to all that are interested. My experiences with his business have been exceptional, as has my experiences with Chris's company. The competition would benefit us all, as we as pattern consumers tend to need additional sources to purchase the products we like and use!!

Just my honest opinion, back to working on my new Gaudius...

</stepping off the soapbox)

Thx, Jerry
