[NSRCA-discussion] Attention D4 - Columbus Contest

Hi Mike,

You must be joining a club that’s a long way out. When we get a NOTAM for Detroit, it reaches all the way down to the Weak Signals Field south of Monroe which isn’t far from Toledo! My home field resides in the inner circle so I’ll be lucky to fly at all. You can bet they’ll show up when it’s sunny and calm and be somewhere else when it’s windy and raining.

I was just checking to see if we had any for the Detroit area since Michigan is the current focus of the Republican candidates and we don’t. I guess they won’t make the grade until they have a nominee. I’m sure that once they do, we’ll be lambasted with NOTAM’s.

I worked at Metro Airport for 18 years in the Police Department and we hated election years. It wasn’t unusual for both parties’ candidates to come and go 3 or 4 times over a weekend and the closer it gets to the election, the worse it gets.

Verne

Man, Verne you got that right about NOTAM's being issued this summer. We can expect a good share of them.

We in Chicgao have the upcoming G8 summit.

It's in May but they are expecting it to be a big disruptive deal. Good thing is I'm joining a club that's outside of the NOTAM for Ohare or I won't get in any flying this summer.

In a perfect world we coordinate dates between North Eastern D5 and D4. It's not always going to work out perfectly. Mike

Based on past practice, a week before the Nats (Team Selection) will be crunch time for Andrew and me with every day, all day practicing.

The one thing I’ve learned about Father’s Day through the years is that it’s not really about the father. We, I, don’t really have much to say about what we get to do on “our” day. In short, I don’t think either weekend is going to work for me, but I’m just one contestant.

I like the idea of coordinating as much as possible with D5 but I don’t think total coordination is going to be possible without diminishing contests in both districts. Another consideration is projected gas prices this summer which is looking a bit ominous. The other impact which is totally unpredictable is a contest being shut down at the last second by no fly directives in a presidential election year. Detroit and Chicago vicinities will likely be impacted by that.

Verne

Here is the D4 Schedule as I understand it:

June 9 & 10 - Muncie

June 23 & 24 - East Wings

June 30 & July 1st – Hoffman Estates D5

July 14 & 15 – Columbus, OH Tentative

July 23 – 29 – NATS

Aug 11 & 12 – Weak Signals

Aug 25 & 26 St. Clairsville

Sept 8 & 9 – RCCD

D4 Champs either Sept 22 & 23 at Hebron or Sept 29 & 30 at Muncie

That gives us 5 contests if we don’t have the Columbus contest and you don’t fly the NATS and you don’t go to Hoffman Estates.

If we have them all that gives us 9 contests.

My question is would those who attend the NATS likely attend a contest July 14 & 15 in Columbus given the NATS are 8 days later?

Thanks
