Mike,

Try McMaster Carr for aluminum solder and flux. I've had only fair success with their ally solder and it's probably the best stuff around

A couple things to keep in mind: solder requires an absolutely clean surface to adhere and flow properly. Your best bet is unused, no oil ally.

If used, you should scub the ally clean everywhere where the solder is to stick and then use sanding or steel brushing to prep the surfaces followed by more cleaning. Actually, you should do that for unused ally parts also just as we do with steel parts.

Remember that the melt temp of regular muffler ally is around 1200F which is low for even a propane torch so you could melt holes in the stuff if not careful. The good thing is that ally solder melts at around 900F so you have a little margin

TIG welding is better, stronger and easier to do well. Luckily I have a friend who has a rig.....

Mike -

The aluminum in our mufflers and headers is very thin. Unless you are
really good at joining thin sections I would take it to a machine shop.
Here in New Mexico I have had good luck. Once I find a shop that can do
the job I talk directly to the craftsman. Most of these jobs take only a
few minutes and for $10 or $15 bucks they are usually willing to do it
on their lunch hour. Doing it through the shop itself is ok too, you'll
probably pay the shop's minimum.

(For all of you out there, can anyone tell me the exhaust temp
approximately of a YS 1.75. I am building a Xurama and the muffler has
to be shortened(tuny's build thread). I nedd to know if anyone has
knowledge how to solder aluminum and if you might have a site that would
help me. I believe that there is a flus and an aluminum solder to do
that. please let me know if you have any info on that.

	Thanks
