In northeast FLA, there is Gateway RC field that is public...no membership required. About 20 mi northwest of Jacksonville, it is a great flying site, paved runway, pits and taxi ways, with a large pavilion and full facilities, power and phone service. It has a bunch of motels and restaurants nearby since it is around 10 miles away from the JaxPort. It also is only 25 miles or so from the Atlantic. Historic StAugustine is 60 miles south.
And if you like to golf, (yeah, I know, why take time away from flying?) this is golf Mecca. The World Golf Village is about 45 miles to the south on the way to St. Augustine (or Daytona, take your pick). There are probably 70 courses to choose from
WAS my home field for 17 years....sigh!!! Then the job yanked me away to Nu Joisey....but I am going back to retire

West side of Houston - Scobee Memorial Field is first class (paved - power - modern restrooms) with center poles @ 150m and box lines. No club membership required, just AMA.

I have an off the wall question for the list.
I'm not a winter weather person. That being said I probably
couldn't live in a worst place but you have to go where the job is.
When we lived in Lincoln it wasn't so bad since there was so much to do there.
Since moving to Iowa 5 years ago it's been a different story.
OK...enough of John's pity party.
I've come up with an idea. I'm thinking about, starting next winter, going south
for 5 - 7 days. Somewhere I can get a week long membership in a club, hole up
in a Motel 6 and fly for a week... Something to look forward to the first half of winter
then something to last me until spring.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to where?
Thanks!
JLK
