Chris, I run the E-F Torque motor on my Angel S 50 with 5000ma 5S packs and an APCE 15X10. Plane has a flying weight of 6 lbs. It flys Masters pretty darn good with that setup. It is the 4014T/570 motor. I see E-F has the motor listed as a 4016T/500 now, but the photograph of it is the 4014T/570. Motor has run flawlessly for 200 flights so far. Don't know how the Helios compares to the Angel S though.

I think it's best for him to get the 5s, and I think this is his thinking, because he can use those in a 2m also. He was thinking the Hacker A40-12L. Good motor, 1100w, 410kv. But I think this may be too much for it. I'm wondering if the A40-12S or 14S would be better if he gets a Hacker. 900w, 610kv. 
Not sure.

900 should do it but he could buy a motor in the 1000-1100 range and have some reserve by dropping the prop size a little or limiting the throttle high end.  Then if Chris needs more, it's there.  Or, he could use a 4S pack to start and could always move to a 5S if need be.

It's Chris Johnson from So Cal's plane. He's going with 5 cell packs. The wattage you said is about right. I think 900 would be really well actually but was asking here for backup, as it's only going to be 4.25 lbs give or take. Do you think he would need more than 200 watts per pound for Intermediate and Advanced? Heck, my 14XL's (Well, 14XL now, RIP) barely give me that.

Probably needs 900-1100 watt range.  As far as Dualsky is concerned, the XM4250CA or XM4260CA size motors would probably work.  These motors will handle 11x6 to 15x8 props depending on battery cell count.  How much prop clearance will he have?  What pack config, 4S, 5S, 6S?
 
I am not familiar with Hacker or Scorpion in this size motor tho I hear Scorpion motors have a great reputation.  There is a guy on RC Groups flying the Helios 63e plane with a Scorpion 4020-12  on the equivalent of a 5S Lipo and says it has way more power than he needs.  So, a 4S might be about right.

I have a friend here in D7 that bought a Hyperion Helios F3A 63e at the AMA show. He called me asking what motor to use. He is thinking Hacker, Scorpion, and Dualsky. Any suggestions for him? It is supposed to weigh 4.25 lbs all up. I have some suggestions but thought I'd ask here for some more.
