John,

	What type of fuel line should I be using here? From the replies,
I think I can safely mount the pump in any orientation, so getting it
close to the pressure tap will be easier. I was, however, intending on
using standard fuel line for all the connections.

The length of the line to the crank case is critical. Closer is better.
And 
don't even think of using standard fuel line for that line.
