[NSRCA-discussion] Hatch latch or screws?

I always put the latch on the canopy because it's easier to set up that way,
but there's no reason it couldn't go the other way.

Yep..C1. Even if I add a T later it will probably be just aft of the canopy.

Should the latch be on the canopy or the fuse for best effectiveness?

Colin,
BTW, I'm assuming you're building the Xigres C-1 without a canalizer. I
don't think you'd be able to mount a hatch latch in the normal position at
the top rear of the canopy if you're using the canalizer that comes on a
C-2. I would think the canalizer would cause enough movement to require the
use of screws to prevent ANY movement of the canopy.

Colin,
The red hatch latch from Hobby Lobby is the best I've found and I've never
had a failure with one. The other ones eith have a pin that's too short or
spring tension that's too soft or too hard. I'm building a Xigres as well
and it'll have the red latch in it. The front will have two, 1/8" aluminum
pins and I'll have either one or two lite ply tabs from the bottom of the
canopy that slide into slots cut into the flange on the fuse that the canopy
sits on. The tabs are there to keep the canopy from moving from side to
side. The front pins and the hatch latch will keep it from blowing off.

Hope this helps,

I'm finishing the canopy on my Xigris and havent decided between at least
one
4-40 screw at the aft top or a hatch latch.

I've always used 2 screws....would'nt dream of a latch with a glow model.
However, this is e-powered. I still hear and read occasionally of departing
canopies and am a little uncertain about the security of a hatch latch.

Is a single hatch latch reliable or should I stick with 4-40s?

Thanks for any feedback.

Colin.
