[NSRCA-discussion] ESC settings for Outrunners??

OK, my hands have now stopped shaking enough so that I can type out this update. I set everything up but have one final problem. With the Fixed Endpoint setting it is intuitive that I need to actually set the low and high endpoints to my low and high stick position. The instructions in CastleLink didn't work at all with the motor disconnected, so I connected the motor and that's where the "fun" began.
They say to back off on the throttle ATV and put my throttle stick at full (this seems an obvious design flaw already since they require the violation of the most obvious safety feature of all - having the motor connected), then disconnect CastleLink and plug the ESC into my receiver. Then plug in the battery and increase the ATV until I hear a beep (this occurred at 65%). I suppose this will set the high point but I don't understand how the ESC knows that it is in Fixed Endpoint setting mode?
Then you are supposed to bring the throttle down to low stick position and again increase the ATV until you hear a beep.
When I began to lower the throttle stick the motor started running backwards at an idle and the more I moved the stick the more it accelerated. I thought I would hook up the CastleLink and reverse the motor there but that is a BAD idea. It did not fix my problem except now it idles at full stick position in the correct rotation. The really BAD part of this is that when I turned off my transmitter (stupidly before unplugging the battery) the motor went to full power instantly, until the dead mans switch (which I debated installing due to "unnecessary" weight) paid for itself. No harm done except my heart rate is not yet at normal.
Not touching it again without a strategy. So I offer my plea for advice again, humbly.

Thanks!! This is great. I'm surprised how skittish I've become in preparing this plane as I don't want something as simple as a config setting to force a scrap part

Lance,
Here is a link with step by step settings. The 80HV and 85HV will use similar settings.

Pardon the obvious newbie question. I'm trying to do the final setup of my first e-symphony with a Phoenix HV85 and Pletty EVO outrunner. I connected to the ESC with a Castle Link and there are lots of settings available but I don't know what should be the best starting setup and I haven't seen any "settings files" from experienced people shared to help newbies get started. The factory defaults clearly will NOT work because I can see at least one setting that can't be right: PWM Switching Rate set to 12 kHz but there is an Outrunner Mode option available...
Can anyone point me to some information or help me to the next step?
