I am glassing a Pentathlon  Not doing a glass fuse layup. Sorry I wasn't
specific in my first post.

That is sorta my thought. 

My question now is could the pigment help locate voids & hollows and thus
decrease the need for primer coats and block sanding, or is that wishful
thinking :-)

 

Verne, since I'm not doing a full glass lay-up I'm not really concerned with
weakening the glass, after all most people thin the resin quite a lot first
which weakens it also. I had the impression at the thickness used in this
method it's mostly a solid base for the paint?

 

This is all thinking out loud before I try me first attempt, so I appreciate
the responses.

Using pigment can help identify where the resin is too thick and needs to be
removed.

Looking at laminating epoxys I see pigment available. in my past I
fiberglassed an old wooden boat and added pigment to the resin BUT I had no

learned a lot about what NOT to do.

 

I have not seen any reference by anone to using pigment in their resin when
glassing a plane.  Why not.

is it weight  or lack of ability to see the wood underneath for finish
sanding or something altogether different thaht I haven't thought of.

 

Just curious.
