As far a nicad or nimh batteries go, nothing is better than a slow charge. In fact, this is really the only way all the cells can safely be equalized. IMHO. I may fast charge mine once in a while, but I don't like to do this more than a couple of times before I go back to an overnight slow charge.

Think I will go back to a standard wall wart at a lower charge rate for overnite charging.  High capacity NiMh cells (anything over 1650 mah) do NOT like to be overcharged.
