I would have to agree with Dave on this issue. It has all ready crept into D5 and D6. We have had a recent thread and others in the past trying to solve a disproportionate number of Masters flyers at local contest. The latest solution to that one seems to be to draw lots for flight section then fly and then toss a coin to determine the trophy winner. That really solves allot. Might as well just all meet at the Casino and shoot some craps for the evening and see who comes out the big winner. Not really any reason to fly. I have also seen contest way in the past that had contestants judging their own class, it don't work. Now, with the growing inclusion of a second schedule of FAI into LOCAL contest it can further exacerbate the problem by stopping flyers from moving into FAI due to the second schedule. I have ran across a few examples of flyers this year that had considered moving to FAI to help alleviate the numbers problem and the judging problem that follows but had second thoughts due to the F schedule being flown at contest on Sunday, which can effectually quash a legitimate chance in the contest. That is not what the F schedule was intended to due.

I hope flying the F schedule at local contest doesn't spread to D2. I have zero interest in learning two FAI schedules and if it happens here I'll join the herds of people flying Masters. Isn't it in the rules to fly F only in the Nationals or Championship contest?

I have taken note that since we started flying the F pattern regularly on Sunday at local contests (couple years now), we have been scoring it in such a way that it is simply treated as a 6 round contest in which any combination of the F and P sequences may be the drop rounds. I think the concensus originaly being that not everyone is comfortable flying the F, allowing those that only practice the P to be able to drop both F rounds (usually 2 F rounds on Sunday).
Hypothetically, it could be run and tabulated in such a way that in a typical 6 round contest of 4 P's and 2 F's, you would drop one P and one F. More of a Prelims and Finals style.
It's not any serious concern to me, but I am curious, what is the concensus among FAI pilots now? Just keep it the same, or consider changing?
