I actually had a set of those on a Royal Cessna 310. Circa 1975.  I could taxi out, lock the brakes (one on each main gear), run the engines (two K&B .40s) up to 1/2 throttle to clear the engines before commencing takeoff. I was 17 at the time. ;-)
