[NSRCA-discussion] AXI 5330 F3A care and feeding?

Is anybody keeping an eye on magnet condition? I'm wondering how and when you decide that the magnets are getting weak. While running the motor at high temperatures will accelerate this process, it will eventually happen to all permanent magnet electric motors unless the magnets are made from some kind of miracle substance. I'm sure that under "normal" use it would take quite a while for this to happen so you'd have to keep records for a while before you noticed anything. As the magnets "wear out", the efficiency goes down and (all else being equal),  the current draw increases for a given prop load.

Going back to R/C car racing days I remember people "zapping" their magnets to maintain top performance (or so they thought). The motors didn't last very long because they got pretty hot in an off-road car. I'm sure the magnets are much better nowadays so you E-heads probably have nothing to worry about. :)

Good question. My experience says no maintenance required. It's plug and
play Anthony and watch out for that permanent smile your going to develop it
canreally hurt at times.
You do however need a bit of a break in with the new lipo's. Limit your
amps and flight times for a few flights on each pack this spring. Remember to
keep the 80/20 or I like the 70/30 rule intact. Lipo's lifespan are very
dependent on how you treat them. Mike
