For the CIAM question, see here:
http://www.fai.org/aeromodelling/
Quote from the headline of the website:
"Welcome to CIAM, the Home Page of the International Aeromodelling
Commission of FAI. FAI's aeromodelling and spacemodelling activities,
in particular World Records and International Competitions, are
conducted under the direction of CIAM."
Google is a wonderful thing! ;)

Subject: [NSRCA-discussion] FAI/CIAM
All,
Being somewhat anal (club members would argue with "somewhat") I'm
having a problem understanding the relationship with FAI and CIAM. I
understand (I think) that the FAI is the international governing body
for aeromodeling competition...but where does CIAM fit in?
Also, F3A is the international class designation for RC aerobatics but
where does the designations "401-406" come from. My best guess is the
numbering system 401, 402, 403, 404 & 406 is an AMA designation. Is
that correct?
