I was also in Electrical Engineering during the slide rule to calculator transition. Saved up for months to buy a TI-58 calculator. It was "programmable", great for doing repeated calculations.

I was in the generation that changed from slider rule to HP-35. That was a huge change in the engineering school. The tests were redesigned to account for the time savings when using calculators. Very good memories. That was early 70's.
