[NSRCA-discussion] FAI Judges for finals at the Nats

In past Nats, pre-semifinals in F3A, I know Don Ramsey and I scrambled to fill chairs for both the F3A and Masters Final. If the F3A semifinalists really wanted to judge they should step forward and be counted....that would make the Chief Judge's job a heck of a lot easier. But these folks should understand that an assignment might be the Masters Final OR the F3A Final.

?

It must be understood that the guys who aspire to judge the F3A Final have at least a familiarity with the F sequence and its nuances. Guys who already fly the sequence, as Jason points out,?should have the requirements hands down, but Derek may be right here also, it's no guarantee that they can score it correctly, anymore than anyone else.

I'm not sure?I like the idea of having these folks step up after they are defeated, however, having more guys is better than having less. It would be up to the Chief Judge to make the calls

I had your #2 answer only Derek, otherwise I think it could work. I feel an Fai pilot is just as capable as any other pilot to judge his own class. Also an Fai pilot could be just as objective as and other judge. I only say this as Masters judges could also be a lesser judge for the competition if their team member is flying against a rival. Not saying it happens, but it could. I haven't attended a nats yet, so I don't know how the judging is. Just my opinion, I know you've been there many times Derek. I'm sure I don't have a clue. lol

I can think of several reasons why not to use semi-final judges...

1. Who says that they are good judges? Just because one can fly a sequence

doesn't mean one is a good judge - seen this many times over.

2. Could be a conflict in certain cases - what happens if one semi-final

pilot feels they should have made the finals instead of some other pilots?

3. Can they truly be objective - all the time?

Happy Easter

Last night the great dinner discussion was why can't we use Semifinalists as

Finals judges during the Nats. I know this has come up before, but not sure

if it was ever discussed more, or what the outcome was. Why couldn't we use

semifinalist pilots as judges? What better pilots to know the F sequence

than those that have to fly it?

When you are all done with your Easter weekend, this should help bring in

the new week...lol.

Jason
