[NSRCA-discussion] voltage regulator

I'll toss out my 2 bits as well...I bought some MPI generic connector
aileron extensions and while setting up the latest airplane I would get a
glitch on only one aileron.

Checking into this I noticed that the black battery wire was a bit loose so
I raised the tang on the connector and found that the gold pin had not been
crimped all the way and the wire was loose. 

I called MPI and they said send it back so they could look at it..they
wouldn't take my word for it and just replace it..so I sent it back and
bought another one at the LHS.

After several weeks I called them again and the guy said they forgot..ok.so
another 2 weeks goes by and I call them again.

This time I get a different guy and he checks his notes and says there was
nothing wrong with the extension I sent back...yeh right...

So I asked if they were gonna send the same one back and he said no they
just returned it to the stock.

So I said..where's my replacement?

He said..oh yeah..here is the paperwork right here under this stack of
stuff..

I got the replacement a week later...I checked it closely along with the
others I had bought and they all were ok.

More recently on the flip side of that...Sonic-Tronics..I called them to get
some advice on how to repair one of their products that broke in use and
they sent me enough parts to fix it 6 more times. Free..without me asking
for it..a class act.

And they spoke good English too.

Hopefully..no one will lose a good airplane because of that servo
extension..check em'.

While I'm on a roll..Sullivan twist lock glowplug connector..it won't fit on
the plug!!

Same story...I called em'..'WHAT? We never heard of that.'

I said that I squeezed the connector with pliers as you recommend so that
they will fit..except it won't.

Same deal...'send back so can see it.'

Then I said just grab one and see what happens and then come back to the
phone..'nope.got see it'..

I hung up and threw it away and got a Hobbico.

Two of these connectors from Sullivan were this way..$26 + ship down the
river.

Ok..I feel better now..

A reason I would be reluctant about running a MPI product is an experience I
had with their CH-818 charger.
Just before Toledo I bought one and checked it out with my VOM.  They claim
it drops to trickle charge after
it delta peaks.  Mine did not.  I talked to them at Toledo where they told
me I didn't wait long enough between normal 
charge and trickle.  When I got home I tried it again.  This time I let it
sit overnight.  Guess what?  It not only does not
drop in to trickle but it actually discharges slightly.  We exchanged emails
back and forth in which they said they knew nothing 
about it.  That their chip supplier had switched specs on them and that they
would change their website to reflect the 
charger's current performance.
I just checked.  Two months after this exchange they are still advertising
it as a peak/trickle charger.
Guess some folks will get a surprise, huh?
