[NSRCA-discussion] 120 AC issues

There was a Dalotel kitted by Dick Hansen back in the early / mid 80's,
could be his....
I had the issue you are describing once with an AC. Ended up being a
slightly out of round sleeve. Everything was fine on the ground and early
into a flight until it got really hot. When it heats up it causes the sleeve
to further warp resulting is a total loss of power. When the engine was
disassembled I could see a discoloration on the sleeve where it was tight
and getting excessively hot. The cure was a new sleeve, piston, and ring.
(ouch $$$$$).

OK this might cause some of you to think back into your memory banks but
my son is trying to fly a YS 120 AC powered Dalotel. It was back from
the old pattern days and I am not sure who made the kit (FG fuse). The
motor appears to be in good condition has good compression and starts
easily. It runs great for the first 5 minutes or so and then will not
throttle up. It has not died but loses throttle response. It does not
appear to be too lean and the tank holds pressure. The motor is not
real hot. The cylinder is touchable after landing. It seems to happen
consistently around 5 minutes into the flight. I figured it was a tank
problem but could not find any (changed the inside fuel line anyway).
The problem does not seem to be reproducible on the ground or at least I
didn't give it long enough to appear. After landing and not refilling
the tank the motor seems to run fine and the plane can be held in any
attitude. I assume that it must be something happening after part of it
heats up enough but I do not remember seeing this in my 120 days.
Thanks,
Stuart Chale
