[NSRCA-discussion] Park flyers for pattern practice?

Well, I hate to throw cold water back atcha there Georgie, buuuuuttt... =)
I'm betting you haven't actually seen one of Dean's foamies fly. It's
tracking is uncanny. Yeah, flat foam....shouldn't work....but it does. Don't
ask me why, I don't know. Perfect? No, but better than most by a longshot.
I have about 6 foamies, a Vanquish, a Hyperion 3Dluxe, a Sebart Katana and
Sukhoi, and that Black Magic foamie outflies all of them except the Vanquish
in tracking. of course if you set it up super light for 3d, it will
sacrifice some of this, but it depends on what you want it to do.
Now sure you add a 15 mph wind and it gets hairy...that's simple physics.
but they were playing with a couple of those things at the GMA contest in a
20-25mph wind and having a blast!
My inherent problem is I have a deep disrespect for foamies. I love them and
treat them like I hate them. Oh I can go all of about 30 seconds without
cutting loose doing something nuts...then that foamie is getting broken. It
makes me do things one should not do to an airplane. I intentionally try to
see hw far I can push it until I go too far. I'll say Dean's are pretty
resiliant in that regard. not indestructable by any means, but it seems to
take more abuse to make it die a death worthy of a foamie.
dean asked me to do some killer airbrush work on one....well, I haven't done
it yet because, well, I better give it to someone else if I do =) LOL
Anyway, he originally asked for a 150 watt plane.....and only the Black
Magic foamie fits that bill well that I know of, but there could be more.
Most of the built up ones really need over 200 watts to fly pattern. there's
quite a few of Dean's foamies out there, just look and ask around. Heck if
Mike Mueller agreed, must be somethin to it =)
And uh....no I don't get anything out of it, I just like the thing and
occasionally I can get Dean to cut me one out LOL
-Mike
