[NSRCA-discussion] Method of mounting wheel pants

I flew off of grass and about everything in-between and never had a problem with damaged wheel pants. And don't worry about losing the the wheel pants or wheel. IF... they ever come loose the worse possible thing that happens is the pant will till back. It would take a LOT of vibration to get the bolt to back out. It works perfect with the Bolly wheel pants as they have the slot in the pants that match the gear leg. I have used flat sided wheel pants with good success also. If in doubt put some thin sand paper on the contact spot and this will keep the pant from twisting. Yes... with this method the axle supports the pant real well. Better then suspenders.

Wayne I think your method is the best because of the way it stiffins the wheel pants. Until I see something better it's the way I will continue to do it. Mike

I have used that method on all my airplanes with wheel pants for some time now and have not found any better way to do it. What I like most about the method is simplicity in changing wheels or removing the pants it they ever needed repair. I used a 6-32 socket head bolt. You have to have a bolt that is threaded all the way. Most 6-32 socket head bolts are not threaded all the way and I had to whip out the die set and thread them. Bob suggest using an #8 size bolt for an axle. If you do use the 6-32 you may have to drill out the wheel hub an resize it with a bushing. But I never did that and had no ill effects.
Smooth FLying......

There is no simpler and easy to use system than what Bob Pastorello shows on his site. This system allows you to change the wheels without taking the pant off or humbling with tiny pieces. I tried the nmp axles and found them lacking.

I'm looking for a light, reliable method to mount wheels and wheel pants on carbon fiber landing gear legs. Any suggestions?
