What a Contest!

Man, what a contest this would have been - 42 registered pilots who entered
as follows:
FAI : Newman, Covey, Atwood, Kimbro, Koop, Kelly and Wong (flying a Kaos 60
with an old Kraft radio as his ProLine and Futaba was shipped to Argentia
for the Worlds)
Masters: Fried, Budd, Carter, Speights, Capone, Sheets, DePalma, Contreras,
Wallace, Burks, Hartmann and Oddino
Advanced: Brown, Fontaine, Nelson, Johnson, Gillespie, Kaneshiro, Collins
and Heitkamp
Intermediate: Yaney, Kimbro, MacAfee, Borrow, Miller, Davies, Belden, Franks
Sportsman : Greear, MacAfee, Lovett, Sorenson, Alves, Gorsich, Anderson
The following would have been the results:
Saturday - High clouds, a brisk wind blowing in your face, but manageable by
all. Round 1 - FAI - Kelly won the round by 2 points over Adrian and his
Kaos. Newman, Covey, and Atwood all deadstick landed somewhere in the
sequence and Kimbro flopped his stall turn and flew a 4-point instead of an
8 point. Koop was looking good until the judges fell asleep and could not
score maneuvers 10-18. He zero'ed these, and it's under protest at this
time. Masters will be tough will Contreras, Wallace and Sheets all getting
1000 points while other pilots were all above 980! Advanced, Nelson, coming
off vacation and had not flown for 3 weeks, has seen better flights - scored
a 620! Fontaine and Brown both had excellent flights in the high 980's, but
Johnson, Gillespie, Kaneshiro, Collins and Heitkamp were a sight to behold..
flyer after flyer putting in outstanding flights with Collins topping the
charts with the 1000, others were above 995! Intermediate: MacAfee and
Kimbro seem to be the ones to beat in round 2 as Scott flew a 999 to
Kimbro's 1000. Miller, Belden, Franks were grouped in the 970 area and Yaney
had a deadstick - but landed safely. Not sure I'd like Davies fill your tank
for the next flight.. oh, and Ron was hanging in there with a 975!
Sportsman, Greear is Greear, flying rock steady while other sportsman threw
rocks at his plane as it went by.. there was one 'hit' to the stab, which
forces a early landing - a little tape and all is fine. Alves, creditied
with the 'hit' took 1st with the 1000 and others were in the 950 and above.
Stay tuned for round 2 and the final results!
