Derek I actually done just that at our  last contest for some reason I didn't do 2-1/2 rolls in the 1/2 cuban 8 only done one but didn't know it till I got to the horizonal 8 and knew I wasn't inverted I finished the manuver and so only done a 1/2 roll in the upline of the 1/2 sq loop neither judge caught any of the wrong manuvers, I told the CD I should have 5 zeros for that flight not that it mattered in the end. The CD didn't change scores, and one judge was FAI and one was Advanced.

How about the pilot confessing to their zeros after they land?  Hold them accountable...

At the Don Lowe Masters, they had a rather large panel of judges. There were actually two groups, one group judged the quality of the manuever flown. The other, smaller group of judges were the "zero" judges. They only judged that the correct manuever was flown, and awarded only 10 or 0. If the zero judges awarded a zero, that would over-ride the quality judges. It would be nice if we could do that at local meets.
 
Now that I think of it, why not?? It has been mentioned before that the FAI flyers could judge themselves, this would be a way for that to happen. Let the FAI pilots be the zero judges. If anyone knows whether the correct maneuver was flown, it would be them. Then the masters flyers that are judging FAI would only have to judge the quality of the maneuver. You would not need all the FAI pilots judge each round, just a couple would do. They could confer with each other during the round to agree on a zero or not.
 
The more I think about this, the more I like it.

Have zeroed 3 maneuvers in row before pilot gets back in proper sequence.  We all know the drill.  But the judge that catches them who is also doing it right is the one who is penalized.. Sure makes one want to man the judges chair doesn't it..  If all your work and effort to do the job right is just going to be thrown out because someone feels the judge who scored low is wrong is not sending the right message to those who try to be honest and accountable judges.  What is promoted is the old play it safe and throw out a 7 or 8 and all are happy. Well except for the pilot who cares...  <tic agn>
