If a pilot is talented and working hard enough then he should be
championship eligible and allowed to accumulate points in any class that he
is eligible to enter. He just can't backtrack.

Subject: [NSRCA-discussion] District 3 Advancement and points...
Importance: High
Hey Guys,
I would like some input from D3 pilots about advancement and district
championship points. In the past, our district has not allowed pilots to
move up mid-season and still keep their points from the previous class. To
my knowledge, this has not been a written rule, but has just been the way we
have done it. I remember this coming up at least twice in the past ten years
or so.
Anyway, personally, this has not been a rule that I necessarily agreed with.
Since this doesn't seem to hapen often, I haven't thought about it while I
have been DVP. Recently, this issue has come up again. So, I have spoken
with the AVP's and next years DVP, and we have come up with the following
possible rule change. Please feel free to comment either on or off the list,
but please let me know how you feel.
RULE CHANGE...
A pilot accumulates points during the year for the class in which they fly.
If they decide to move up in class, they will keep their points in the lower
class, but will not begin accumulating points in the higher class until
after the district championship. Once you move up in class, you cannot move
back down. Masters and FAI pilots must choose either class to accumulate
points, but cannot choose both. A pilot, therefore, may only be eligible for
one district championship.
