Bob,
The white colored gear on the Focus II is made of Fiberglass tow to the best
of my knowledge. You can get replacement gear legs from Piedmont and I
believe that they will have replacement gear legs made of a very lightweight
aluminum.
I would shy away from the Bolly gear because it moves the axles too far back
for this airplane, thus making it all too easy to nose over. I know Bolly
makes a Suhhoi type gear, and you may very well have luck with that, however
I can HIGHLY recommend ES Composites' gear from Central if no other options
particularly appeal to you. If you want to pop for a 60 some odd dollar set
of gear legs for that airplane that didn't cost that much to begin with go
for it, however I don't think it would be worth it. Just some thoughts.
Ryan

Ref the two piece gear. I chose to make an aluminum plate that lays on top
(of airplane inverted in cradle) of the two
gear legs, and has four holes for each of the gear bolts. It kind of ties
the two legs together. It has worked fine.

Subject: [NSRCA-discussion] Focus II Landing Gear crack
Hello all,
The left side of my Focus II landing gear has cracked and I thinking of
getting replacement gear. The Focus gear are in two parts; a left half and
a right half. The particular gear I have is a white color; not sure just
what it is made of. I see on the Piedmont web site that there is a black
colored gear which might be carbon fiber? I am wondering if others have
noted cracking in their Focus landing gear and what is being done about
replacement? It seems to me a single gear would be better than a two halves
gear. What is the membership experience?
