[NSRCA-discussion] NATS advanced question

Re: [NSRCA-discussion] NATS advanced questionI totally agree with Mark. One of the very big components of being a quality pilot is consistency. If you are not prepared, you need to become prepared. If your equipment is not working, get it working. If you fly 6 you should have only 1 throwaway. If you don't get to fly enough, practice more.

This is a national championship to determine the best, not an endurance contest.

Agreed.. BUT... I LOVE that. As much as I'd have liked to flown 6 rounds...I'm a HUGE proponent of the Semi Final format for FAI. It gives us lower FAI flyers (by lower I mean the group that really isn't in the hunt to make the team) a goal to shoot for. Some are shooting just to make the Semi's...those that have confidence in making the semi's are shooting to make the cut for the finals, and the few that feel comfortable that they should make the finals (are there any?) are striving to make the top 3. Lot's of motivation at multiple levels.

Intermediate, Advanced and Masters all get to fly 6 rounds. 8 Elite masters flyers...the best of the AMA...get the privilege of flying in a final. Something for everyone else to shoot for from ALL the classes.

I would argue that the FAI pilots that are not in the top 20 also don't get a fair shake - they only fly 4 rounds compared to everyone else's 6.

and to add further insult to injury... why is it that the other two classes have to pay the same price to compete at the nats but not be entitled to the same treatment? That sure helps encourage the attitude that all members and pilots are treated as equals in all classes.. !!!

It would be a substantial change to the way the NATS is run...

Are you proposing reducing the number of rounds others (the ones who don't make the finals) fly to make the time for the finals rounds?

Wanted to run this past you all to see what your thoughts were on this. We know that Advanced is suppose to prepare you for Masters, what if the advanced at the NATS took a similar route to what the masters does; meaning that the top 8 guys in masters get to fly in a 4 round final. What if advanced had a 3 round final, and the best score was carried over from the previous 4 rounds. I was thinking that this would certainly make things a little more interesting for the Adavnced folks. Questions and comments are welcomed.
