Hey Rusty I had my eye on that plane when it popped up on Ebay. Glad you got it. The Compensator was a really nice plane that was heavily influenced by the Kirkland Intruder and the Chidgey Tiger Tail. They were all no frills solid planes.
The engine choice could be with a pipe or without as we all went to pipes during the life span of that plane. As I remember the engines were OS, ST, Ross, Rossi, OPS, Webra, Enys's, K&B's and I'm sure a few more. I liked the Webra Speed 61's and the OS's the best. I have somewhere in my house the program from the 1975 TOC. In it it lists all the planes and equipment we all used. I looked but I can't find it yet. Have a blast with it! Mike

          NSRCA List Readers,

I have just received a kit I have wanted since I was a boy- Southern R/C Compensator, an original kit in the original box! (E-bay)

Each year I build at least one model that I wanted but couldn't afford as a youth. It is my intention to build as "original" as possible. I have secured a set of brand new in the box Southern R/C/Pro-line retracts and would like suggestions as to which motor to use...preferably from the era.

Notwithstanding the listing of brand-names...I believe that Mecoa sells new HP engines. A Webra or Super Tiger Blue head would be fine. What about those flow-thru mufflers?
