You are correct that anyone who really wants to compete in pattern in search
of trophies will quickly head to the 2-meter plane, and those who don't
really want the trophies will use whatever works to fly.
I'm not after the trophies... I may eventually get a 2-meter that can do
Masters... but not for a while. I don't even care if my plane can fly that
sequence at all. (mainly a power-weight issue) If the Goldberg Tiger 60
wasn't so awful at stall-turns (wanting to half roll when kicking rudder)
I'd still fly it in Sportsman. Does the rest of the old sequence nicely.
(that vertical up line in the new sequence would be a killer though)
I STILL think that the new Sportsman sequence is a mistake. Vertical up-line
requires too much airplane performance and THAT is going to keep some
potential beginners from competing.
