Hi Troy,
Thanks for creating those diagrams! I downloaded them from that very
link months ago and then made up my own .pdf with the aresti diagrams on
one side and the accompanying score sheets on the other, laminated the
pages and had it spiral bound. One copy lives in my flight box and the
other by the sim :)
I've really become pretty comfortable with aresti myself. Although I
have both the aresti and textual descriptions on my practice sheet, the
aresti is what I refer to most often.
I also find it much easier to describe the maneuvers to pilots new to
aerobatics by walking them through the aresti. However, when I first
encountered the diagrams there was a definate learning curve. I was
thinking about an article explaining the basic elements of aresti to get
folks over that hump. Things like the circle denotes the start of a
maneuver, the -| denotes the end, dashed lines mean inverted, the
nomenclature for rolls and snaps - that kind of thing. Once you
understand the components, putting them together to describe a maneuver
is pretty logical.
