Because when you get into a dogfight, the ability to point your nose at 
the enemy regardless of energy can be a VERY nice thing. 

That said, the F/A-22 is supposedly VERY stealthy. This year, the 
Raptor had it's first go at Red Flag at Nellis AFB. In every encounter 
it flew, it killed its targets without so much as being locked up once. 
Planners for the Red Flag exercisses were saying they needed to find 
new testing/training methods against the F/A-22, because it's so good.
