[NSRCA-discussion] Offset in program mix

I use a landing condition stolen from Dave Lockhart. With the Futaba radios
that have separate conditions it is pretty easy. 9Z, 12 and 14 have them
(and perhaps others) Just assign a new condition to a switch and you can
have any function change throws, centering etc. In mine, both ailerons
droop ala flaperons, the differential is modified so they do not bind when
going further down (they move up normally and down just a little). A small
bit of elevator offset can be added (mine didn't need it) and rudder is
mixed to aileron to aid in slow speed turning. In addition with the 14 MZ
you can set it to activate slowly so no sudden pitch changes. I also set a
voice to the switch to tell me it is activated. You can use the setting
for short take offs on grass runways and I didn't want to accidentally leave
the setting activated during a pattern.

Very interesting. I would never have thought of doing it that way. I use a
landing condition to switch out the down trim on low throttle and can have a
different trim than the flight trim but I would agree you wouldn't want to
be moving the digital trim during landing. I guess if you want to be
changing the trim and using the full range of the slider you have a clever
solution.

I use my right slider to mix in elevator when I go to my landing mode. This
allows me to trim for a slower airspeed without messing up my in-flight
elevator trim. I use -100% offset in the mix to allow the slider to become
effective over its entire range. I mix in a max of 10% of up elevator.
Without the offset, the mix would not start until I moved the slider through
the middle position (i.e. the slider would not have an effect until I moved
it at least half way). The offset makes it fully proportional in generating
0 to 10% mix from the slider's stop to stop.

I'll bet there isn't anyone in the USA who can explain how the offset
function in Futaba 9Z Program Mix works and how one would use it.
Anyone? Maybe a helicopter guy?
