In this case, he qualifies as a newbie old fart. I first flew an R/C
airplane in 1954. It was a deBolt Kitten, powered by an Atwood .049 and
with an ECE single channel receiver. I hit so many trees that my wife
made me tree decals to put on the side of my airplane.
I joined AARP over 20 years ago.

Boy this brings back memories. I flew my first sucessful RC airplane
with rudder only and escapment to boot in 1967. It was a Goldberg 1/2
Skylane that probably cost about $10. El cheapo super regen tx/rx. i
would have loved an ACE system. Last year I bought a couple of orginal
kits on Ebay for $75 to $85. I built one rudder only but electrified.
rudder and motor control only. I really get a kick out of trying to fly
it. Makes you remember when a plane had to be in trim to be successful.

Hey Bob, That would make me an old fart at age 48
..:)
I wonder how many have flown R/O???? Amazing how much fun that
was
.$63.00 for my old Ace Pulse Commander purchased from Bill Knost at
House of Hobbies in Tulsa. First a scratch built Javalaero from Ted
Straders article in MAN
then a Dicks Dream
which would do a single
spiral loop and a half spiral barrel roll with a TD.020
.man you should
have seen the first flight when I changed from the pee wee to the
TeeDee
not enough downthrust and I was banking like crazy hoping for the
fuel to run out
..a different challenge in a different time
.but all was
fun, I was about 13.

Have you flown RC for more than 30 years?? Have you ever looped and
rolled an airplane with just rudder control? :-)

Bob,
What are the qualifications for an old fart? I just submitted my
membership application to AARP this month. Do I qualify?
