[NSRCA-discussion] Rule 8.1.1

Wayne,
...There are always a few who didn't exactly get what they should have out
of sportsman. That is true even at the local contest level. I know of
another guy who is going to do the same thing from back where I used to live
this year. I've always maintained, you'll learn more flying those 6 rounds
at the NATS than you will at all your local contests combine. Just a
totally different atmosphere. Both guys had talked about going to watch, my
argument was if you are going, then fly...who cares if you finish last. The
maneuvers in intermediate aren't that much more difficult if you have a
capable airplane (flying the sequence correctly is), so go out, have a good
time, meet a lot of good people, and hey, if you finish last, you finish
last, but once you've been to the NATS it is an experience you will not
forget.

Arch,
There are rules established for advancement and if he has not won any
contests in sportsman then I think there may be an exception to the
situation. I just think that in order to compete at the Nats you have to
have a basic knowledge of the pattern and how it is flown. If you can do
this then you have basically mastered the reason for being in sportsman
class and SHOULD be able to compete in the Intermediate level. If that's
the case then I should be still flying Advanced. At least that's the way my
flying has been like lately... heh! heh!
Smooth FLying...
Wayne
