JLK, 

WOW I was just thinking of the old E6B and your right it is the perfect illustration
for wind speed/direction vs. aircraft speed and direction and its effect on track.
Maybe the next time the subject comes up at a contest I'll dust it off to illustrate.
Although these days anymore it's all about the techque computers and not a lot
of people who are full scale even know what a E6B is or how to use it.  But the 
E6B lets you see what the nose of the aircraft will be in relation to the wind and
"track" unlike a computer that will just spit out a number to point the
aircraft to.
