John,

I have the same problem in my old 140 Rx.  Decided to replace piston, ring and connecting rod.  As soon as I replace the parts I will really know if that is the solution.  My engine is very old so it makes sense to me.  The question is:  how much your engine was used in the past?  

I will let you know but is going to take me some time.  I will run the engine on the bench as soon as I replace the parts.
