Yes, you got it. Anthony's reminder is important too if you have a
honeycomb firewall or crossgrain balsa. Of course, if you are mounting the
engine for the first time, it is always best to drill the firewall correctly
and avoid the "oversized washer", but the washer idea doesn't hurt anything.
Just be sure to tack it in place with some adhesive. Simple squeeze
pressure will not stand up to the vibration.
