[NSRCA-discussion] Two killed by model airplane

I will never forget the experience of my being on receiving end of 60 size Aeromaster (around 6.5 lbs) that literally lifted me off my feet and carried me 10 feet and slid another 15 feet on my back and butt after hitting ground. I saved the two ladies sitting in lawn chairs behind us.. I was busy instructing another pilot when I heard engine sound getting very loud as bipe was aiming straight at us. I reached up with left arm and swatted it down into my flight box that was destroyed. My left thumb made contact with the upper metal cabane strut. How my hand got by that 14" prop with out being cut to pieces still amazes all that witnessed it. Makes one wish all flying fields had tall cyclone fences for pit barriers.. Thankfully accidents happen rarely involving people. But with our sue happy society I'm afraid it is only a matter of time before mandates are legislated to protect us from ourselves.

p.s. I have often asked myself if that was only a .60 size Aeromaster, I can only imagine what some of the new breed of aircraft would have done to me.

Having just spent a week at the Joe Nall event it is clear to me it is only a matter of time before a similar tragedy happens here in the US.

Sad news,it should remind us that were only a serious accident away from potentially being grounded. We can all say that we fly safe and yada yada yada but if the radio fails it could be a disaster. Man I hope this doesn't happen again. I once witnessed a young girl getting hit by a plane in the 70's and it still haunts me.

Yep.. 4 others were injured. Looks like it was a 3W Pitts Model 12 that crashed. The pilot was arrested by police at the scene..
