Hmmmm.....if the list behavior needs changing let's call it ..."Boys Gone Bad"  and sell CD's.

         I'm not anti-electric. But if I reported that I had blown a rod on a YS DZ I perceive that I would get a different reaction than if I report a problem with an electric motor or its set-up. 

  If I succeeded in getting one pilot to take care of their batteries in a safer way then it was worth running the gauntlet of my usual critics on this list.

  BTW - Rules proposals are the last thing on my mind. I'll leave that to the NSRCA board and the survey results etc. Nor would I want to separate pilots. Rewarding private and funded pilots is a different issue.

    After your last emails about the charging incident, I was sure you'd follow it up with some sort of rule change proposal.  I was guessing you would start with an outright ban on electrics J, and not a separation of pilots.

    I have noticed a behavioral change in this discussion list over the years when it comes to electric power. There was always some polarization to Radios and engines etc.

     

    What I noticed most was that the glow era engine owners were very willing to report their engine failures and a whole myriad of engine fixes and preventative medicine.

     

    I still see the latter but not as much of the failure reporting. I put this down to sponsored pilot behavior with all products. I also noted a change at the top. Now most all the pilots are sponsored in one form or another. We always had a few sponsored pilots but now the unsponsored pilot is the exception.

     

    Maybe it is time to have a Pro-Am separation in the awards?

     

    I also noticed that the list does a lot more advertising/selling that it was ever intended to. That may be or not may be a good thing.

     

    Judging by my off-list in-box a lot of folks do not post on the list what they think for fear of retributional responses. "Nil illegitium carborundom men!"

      Nope!,...... I think that I might have also had a similar experience with the Astro charger. 
      I had a pak that had been in storage for about 3 weeks and decided to top it off before flying, but noticed when I connected it to the charger that it started out at the maximum voltage and started increasing from there into territory I had never seen before.Recognizing that I had never seen voltages this high displayed on the screen before, I immediately terminated the charge. This all happened within a period of 15-20 seconds.

        I can't say how the charger works, but my uneducated guess would be that the voltage rise (internal impedance) with the application of current would be different between charged/uncharged cells.
