[NSRCA-discussion] more sportsmans set up questions....

Dean,

I've started flying a Focus II in sportsman myself this year and I remember
trying a few different things as far as control throws went over the winter.

For the elevator I had my caller/dad look over my shoulder for a sequence
and watch the amount of elevator throw. I just kept adjusting the throw
until I was using about 80-85% max.

Ailerons were adjusted intil I got a roll rate that I liked, and wasn't too
fast to get a consistant exit from the rolls. I found that too much caused
me to hunt for wings level and actually made it harder to hold altitude
during the rolls.

For the rudder I have two rates. Low is for everything except stall turns
(and then only for the rotation). Low is set to give smooth rudder
corrections without the plane jumping around. High is about an inch and a
half measured at the top of the rudder. I could do the stall turn on low
rate, but I found during calm conditions high is much easier. High rate
really comes in handy when I'm admiring my pretty upline, patting myself on
the back and forget that the plane is bleeding off speed and I might want to
add some rudder.

I hope that helps and I didn't just bore everyone. If you're interested
I'll measure the actual throws.

Rick
