I have also used a heat gun to the area when it gets down to only fry K2R to help liquefy and pull and residual oil out of the wood.. Does take a few treatments if heavily oil soaked.

Eric
I use K2R spot remover. It is found in grocery stores near cleaning supplies. This stuff sprays wet and turns into a powder form that soaks up the oil .Depending on severity it may take 2 applications and several days to soak. To remove afterwards, scrape the powder and finish the wipe up with damp cloth and let balsa dry, then monokote.I have used it for years and it works well for me.

Trying to recover the bottom of a Focus II. Problem is fuel soaked balsa is not letting the covering stick.
Looking for a way to treat the wood to get the oil out it so the covering will stick.
