Ed,

That is even better. Looks like you have been running the engine. If that is correct keep your notes. Probably we are going to need it in the near future.

Thanks,

Vicente

The new ZDZ40F3A engine weights 1117g (39.4oz) without ignition module. The engine comes with a new ignition, which has built in four different advance curves switchable on the ground. With the curve #2 or #3, the infamous vibrations around 3500 rpm will practically disappear. When the ignition is engaged after mixture had been prepared (ignition OFF, choke ON, throttle wide open, listen for the characteristic sound, something like when pig is consuming his Thanksgiving dinner), the engine starts usually on the first easy flip. ed

I helped a friend to build the Abbra with ZDZ 40. If I remember right the engine was 53 oz without ignition system. Therefore the savings is 10 oz. with the new F3A engine. The plane is now 11lb 5 oz with Hyde mount. With the new ZDZ 40 F3A it would be easily below 11 bls.

For sure it has more than enough power and the engine is easy to run and start.

The new ZDZ40 F3A version looks nice. It should be in the 43 oz range with ignition, plug, and all hardware so figure another 4 oz for battery and switch and 10 oz for a quiet pipe. This leaves 7 lbs 7 oz for the rest of the airframe. And an 11# plane with this much power on tap could fly a long time with an 8 - 10 oz tank over the cg.

If Mark Hunt's Insight can weigh 9.5# with the YS 1.40, it just might make weight with this engine.

if you haven't heard, ZDZ is coming out with a new 40cc f3A engine this
summer. this thing will turn as large of a prop as the electrics. The weight
increase over glow isn't even half as bad as electric. This alone could do
great things for us in crossing certain invisible barriers.
