[NSRCA-discussion] Acetone in methanol?

I tried it and it does help starting in cold weather and perhaps idles a
little smoother.
The real problem I found out was if you are going to use it in a YS,
remove the paint inside the valve cover.
If you don't, the acetone will remove it for you and contaminate the
engine.
Acetone has about the same effect as propylene oxide without the
expense.

Subject: [NSRCA-discussion] Acetone in methanol?

Gentlemen,
You may be aware most of us down here mix our own fuel. We have
available pure Methanol or a methanol product 'Shell A' which has 3%
Acetone in it.
I have added 2-3% acetone into my fuel mix ( I buy pure Methanol) and
I'm not sure if I could detect a difference, if any at all. It may have
idled a bit better-but it could have been my imagination??

So my question is-what exactly can/does Acetone do in our fuel mixes??
Does it do anything at all??

Thanks for any insight.

Tom
