[NSRCA-discussion] Hamburg Contest

Until I moved away from district 1, the Pocono and Glen contests were my two
must attend events every year. IMHO both are excellent sites to fly at.
Pocono had a distinct advantage of being a vacation area with plenty for my
wife and son's to do while I burnt some fuel. Glen on the other hand was
boys weekend out. Dirt track nearby for Saturday night racing, Ken, his
wife, family and club members put on a spread Saturday evening second to
none. Saturday evening "free style" flying was another high point of Glen,
some of the most enjoyable flying I've ever experienced was during the Glen
Saturday evening fun fest. Most of us stayed at the Poplar Inn, I'm sure
the staff there is still finding debris from our stays. The sportsman among
us even caught the native "Bud Fish" in the pool on occasion.
I was saddened to hear about the loss of Glen and though I never attended
Hamburg, the loss of any contest is a serious blow for our sport. I would
hope Pocono continues as it is a great event, held at a great facility and
run by some of the best around. I would also hope it would be supported by
all those in District 1. Maybe this old southern boy needs to travel up
north this year to support it and put some wup-ass on some of my long time
northern friends. I have a few new stories to tell..............
