[NSRCA-discussion] What the NSRCA does (and could do) for me

Perhaps there are communities interested in a tourist attraction which would
help with support?

Don:
Just to let everyone know. As the AMA District V VP, I do know that this
idea has been presented by several groups, and AMA is very willing to
support groups who want to host their portion of the NATS at a site other
than Muncie. The idea of going to Muncie every 2nd or 3rd year seems to be
the most popular view. Financially, the cost sharing would be about the
same as it is now, with HQ handling the registration and NSRCA getting the
bulk of the fees. However the rest of the cost would have to be absorbed by
the NSRCA/host club. While we do not require a lot of support gear, we do
own computers and scanners for the scoring. The field set-up mainly
requires lines and poles and that is about it.
It can be done, and not too expensively at that. The N-PACS of the past
have shown NSRCA is capable of putting on a first-class event!

While the topic of a 'Roving Nats' has been discussed here and in most NSRCA
Districts, to bring everyone up to speed, here is the general idea.
The AMA National site is intended to be a USA central site offering a
premier flying environment for all aspects of radio control aircraft flying.
It is certainly a site that satisfies most of it's intent. However, it also
located in such a place that traveling there creates a hardship for some.
We felt that hardship might preclude some pattern members from traveling to
and participating in the Nats.
In the past, the Nats rotated around the US to sites, often a military base
or some similar site with adequate facilities. However, locating a site,
preparing for the Nats and administering everything that has to be done for
a Nats was different each time the Nats moved. A royal headache for those
concerned.
The NSRCA officers (and others) had discussed the idea of a roving Nats for
pattern and we began to investigate the possibilities.
Without going into a lot of details, 2 meetings were held to discuss this
with NSRCA representation from around the US and it was concluded that a
modified approach or using a roving pattern Nats on alternatiing years with
every other pattern Nats being held at Muncie would give a host site for the
non Muncie based Nats a 2 year window to prepare for the event. Also, we
could rotate it in a East Central, South central and
West Central schedule to give ample opportunity for regions to host as well
as minimizing travel impacts to everyone.
At that point, it became a financial study to understand AMA/NSRCA financial
incentives or impacts. That is where it stands today. I have not pushed it
any further.
There are reasons for it not moving forward, however, they are not important
here. I take accountability for it not moving past the financial stage. If
you need to yell at someone, be angry, or find a guilty party, point it
right here.

Two new full time advertisers added- plus two part timers, lost one that
burned out,( but is coming back), and another that moved to Nashville.
Web site advertising voted down by the Board.
Who was appointed to head up the Roving Nats Committee ?

Ummm...correction on one line.
The winner of sportsman got a fully built 2 meter plane, I'm painting it
now. Not sure where you heard it faltered, the winner was Marcio Jorge. Time
is just an issue with me, I'm super busy and it's getting much worse than I
ever imagined.
Also second place got a sheeted kit, and 3rd got a kit.
So, that one hasn't faltered one inch =) As for someone else not doing it
elsewhere, not much I can do about that.

The NSRCA is a volunteer group made up of officers, district VPs, and
members. Although elected, the officers and VPs are not paid and, like the
members, volunteer their time for this hobby. Here's what I get for my $40
and what I didn't get:
What got started but faltered due to lack of volunteers:
Roving Nats location
Updated judging video
New advertisers in KF and on web site
Major Promotions, like D3's sportman winner getting a 2m plane
