I (and many others in the northeast) have been using S&W w/ 2% Castor and 17% synthetic (Klotz) in all engines for close to 20 years - YS 2C and 4C, OS 2C and 4C, Webra 2C, ST 2C. And for the majority of that time, running dry at the end of the day, and lubing w/ Mobil 1 synthetic or Amsoil MP.
Never a problem with diaphragms, pumps, or varnish buildup. After a long period of rest, there is occasionally some added drag on the bearings, or (apparently) a little bit of build up in the pump/fuel supply requiring a richer needed for a couple minutes. Bearing life and general corrosion/coloration in the engines is definitely better using the 2% castor.
Like Matt K said....find something that works and stick with it.

What is the effect of castor oil on the pump diafragm? I understood that we can not use Castor oil in YS because of the diaframs and regulators parts. I am not sure now if castor oil couls cause similar problems in OS 140 RX pump and the and the Perry pump.
